Completion of the first UEC50LSH-Eco-C2-EGR engine

Japan Engine Corporation (J-ENG) has successfully finished the shop test of the first 6UEC50LSH-Eco-C2-EGR engine equipped with a low-pressure EGR system on Oct. 6, 2020. The engine will be delivered to a wood chip carrier built by Onomichi Dockyard Co., Ltd. owned by Tokai Shipping Co., Ltd.

The EGR system is a technology to meet the NOx Tier III regulations through slow combustion with reduced oxygen concentration by mixing re-circulated exhaust gas into the intake fresh air. J-ENG’s EGR system is categorized as “Low-pressure EGR” and, namely, low-pressure exhaust gas extracted after the turbocharger’s turbine is re-circulated. Utilizing the exhaust gas after the turbocharger enables flexible engine operation by easier switch of engine operation mode with/without EGR system when sailing in/out the ECA (Emission Control Area), which contributes to stable operation of the vessel.

The 6UEC50LSH-Eco-C2-EGR engine, which has been completed its shop test and overhaul inspection, provides the latest EGR system with a compactness and simplicity established through past technology and knowhow.

All the recirculation lines, re-circulated from turbocharger outlet, are built-in on the engine, which is realizing easier engine installation in the engine room as the usual engines. The low-pressure EGR system is being applied to other UEC engine models and expanding its production.

J-ENG will keep forwarding to contribute the global environment and realize a sustainable society by providing environmentally-friendly engines.
